In the biggest prisoner swap between the Russia and the US since the Cold War, 24 prisoners have been released from prisons across Russia, the US, Germany and three other Western countries.

The swap included the release of Wall Street Journal journalist Evan Gershkovich, former US Marine Paul Whelan and Russian-American radio journalist Alsu Kurmasheva.
