Bangladesh resumed the third day’s play at 10/0 in two overs, but Pakistani bowlers, especially Khurram Shahzad, wreaked havoc in the morning session. The Bangladeshi batters struggled to settle and lost wickets in quick succession, collapsing to 26/6 by the 12th over. However, Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz launched a rescue mission, showing great maturity to counter the Pakistani attack and stabilize the innings. The duo added 165 runs for the seventh wicket, avoiding the follow-on threat before Miraz fell to Khurram Shahzad just before the Tea break, having scored 78. It is pertinent to mention that this was the first time in Test cricket that the seventh Wicket Partnership surpassed 150 runs after the first six wickets fell under 30 runs.
Litton Das continued his impressive form and notched up his fourth Test ton on the occasion. He paired up with Hasan Mahmud, and the duo added 69 runs for the ninth wicket. The Pakistani bowlers struggled to break this partnership, but finally, Salman Ali Agha trapped Litton for 138 runs and broke the 69-run stand between the duo. Nahid Rana fell shortly after, and Bangladesh were bundled out for 262 runs in 78.4 overs, falling 12 runs short of Pakistan’s total. Hasan Mahmud remained unbeaten on 13 runs off 51 balls.
Khurram Shahzad starred with the ball for the hosts, claiming six wickets, while Mir Hamza and Agha Salman chipped in with a couple of wickets each as Pakistan had a lead of just 12 runs. The hosts walked out to bat to see off the remaining few overs of the day. Yet another failure with the bat from Abdullah Shafique who chased for a wide delivery and perished for just 3! The experiment of sending a nightwatchmen did not work as well. Khurram Shahzad who picked up 6 wickets earlier in the day walked out to bat and was dismissed without opening his account in the final delivery of the day!
A day which has belonged to Bangladesh after a sensational fightback with the bat and now ending the day on a high with the ball. Pakistan are 9/2 and lead by just 21 runs.
