As Kolkata rape and murder incident PGT doctor continues to perplex the nation, Padma Awardees Dr Harsh Mahajan and Dr A K Bhalla on August 18 informed ANI that he along with 70 Padma Awardees have written to PM Modi concerning over the matter. They demanded PM Modi to show personal interest in this horrific incident and asked for strict punishment for the culprits. They further requested separate laws for the protection of doctors and healthcare officials.
Speaking to ANI, Dr Harsh Mahajan said, “Over 70 of us, Padma Awardees who have been honoured by the government over the last few decades got together and have written to PM Modi to take personal interest in this matter and to see that the culprits are brought to book and get the strictest possible punishment. Also, we have requested a new separate law for the protection of doctors, healthcare professionals and healthcare institutions be brought in so that no one dares to even talk or do verbal abuse against healthcare professionals and healthcare workers…”
Dr A K Bhalla said, “We condemned the incident and demand punishment against the perpetrators. We request PM Modi to make laws for the security of Doctors and Healthcare professionals.”
