North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein declared a statewide state of emergency ahead of a winter storm that’s expected to bring the first measurable snowfall to Charlotte in three years, warning residents of freezing temperatures and dangerous travel conditions. Live team coverage from WCNC Charlotte’s Weather Impact Team, plus the latest live updates on winter weather, snow totals and forecast from Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich.
“This storm will likely bring significant impacts from snow, sleet and freezing rain in different parts of the state,” Stein said. “North Carolinians should pay close attention to their local weather forecast, make sure they are prepared with what they need at home before Friday afternoon and stay home if possible as ice on the roadways will likely create dangerous driving conditions.”
A Winter Storm Warning means heavy snow, sleet or ice are likely to cause significant problems to a specific area. In most cases, travel is delayed and strongly discouraged, especially as road conditions worsen.
The first signs of winter weather will spread from west to east Friday afternoon and will continue to pick up through the evening.
The developing storm system could bring a mix of rain, snow and sleet to the Carolinas Friday afternoon through early Saturday.
The most recent change is that the window for winter weather reduces quickly after midnight on Friday. Also, the evening will likely start with snow and then transition to sleet and/or ice. #Weather #Snow #snomg #winter #wintrymix #winterweather #sleet #freezingrain #ice
