US president Donald Trump met with his Ukrainian counterpart Zelensky in the White House on Friday (Feb 28). The meeting between the two leaders ended in a disaster as the exchange over the war with Russia got so tense. US President Trump and Vice President JD Vance attacked the Ukrainian leader, saying he showed disrespect, underlining how the change of administration in Washington has undermined Kyiv’s attempts to maintain Western support for its war effort. The first 30 minutes of the Oval Office event appeared to proceed smoothly as Trump repeated his desire to end the war while Zelenskiy emphasized the need for security guarantees. Meanwhile, momentum is building for a peace deal to end the war in Ukraine. Recently, US President Trump dialled Putin to discuss Ukraine peace deal, in which Putin seems to have the upper hand.
