어제(22일) 저녁 경기도 부천의 한 호텔에서 불이나 7명이 숨지고 12명이 다쳤습니다. 사상자 대부분은 불이 시작된 8층과 9층에 머물고 있던 투숙객으로 알려졌습니다.

정준호 기자입니다.

호텔 건물에서 시뻘건 불길과 함께 연기가 끊임없이 뿜어져 나옵니다.

출동한 소방관들이 불이 난 곳을 향해 물을 계속 뿌립니다.

어제저녁 7시 40분쯤 경기도 부천 원미구의 한 호텔에서 불이 났습니다.

이 불로 투숙객 등 7명이 숨지고, 12명이 다쳤습니다.

병원으로 옮겨져 치료를 받고 있는 부상자 가운데 3명은 크게 다친 것으로 파악됐습니다.

[호텔 화재 목격자 : (투숙객들이) 8층에서 살려달라고 소리쳤고, 매캐한 냄새가 바깥에서 맡을 정도로 계속 뿜어져 나오고 있었습니다.]

소방 당국은 숨진 7명이 20대에서 50대로 남성 4명, 여성 3명으로 확인됐다고 밝혔습니다.

사상자 대부분은 불이 시작된 8층과 9층 투숙객으로 객실 내부와 계단, 복도 등지에서 주로 발견된 걸로 전해졌습니다.

[화재 호텔 투숙객 : 창문을 열고 있었는데 냄새가, 타는 냄새가 들어와서 이상하다 생각하고 핸드폰만 들고 일단 1층으로 계단 통해서 내려왔고요.]

불이 나자 8층 객실에서 남녀 2명이 호텔 외부에 설치된 에어매트로 뛰어내렸는데 모두 숨진 것으로 확인됐습니다.

소방당국은 에어매트가 정상적으로 펼쳐져 있었지만 한 명의 구조자가 떨어진 뒤 매트가 뒤집혔다고 밝혔습니다.

소방당국은 화재 발생 18분 만에 대응 2단계를 발령한 뒤, 진화 작업에 나섰고, 화재 발생 3시간 가까이 지나서야 불이 꺼졌습니다.

불이 난 호텔 건물에는 모두 64개 객실이 있으며 화재 당시 23명이 투숙한 것으로 추정되고 있습니다.

경찰과 소방당국은 오늘 오전 11시 합동감식을 통해 정확한 화재 원인을 조사할 예정입니다.
