PREVIEW: T20 World Champions India will commence their tour of Sri Lanka on 27 July at the Pallekele International Stadium. The three-match T20I series will see Suryakumar Yadav take over from Rohit Sharma as captain, heralding a new era in the shortest format of the game. With a new head coach and captain at the helm, the Men in Blue will aim to build on their recent success, having defeated Zimbabwe 4-1 last month.

Following the T20I series, a three-match ODI series will take place, with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli making their return alongside emerging talents like Riyan Parag and Harshit Rana. The ODIs will begin on 2 August in Colombo. It is worth noting that Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the entire white-ball series against Sri Lanka.

The three-match T20 series will be held entirely at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. The pitch at this venue is typically slower, offering significant assistance to spinners. Of the 23 T20Is played here, teams batting second have secured victory in 12 matches. The average first-innings score at Pallekele is 168.

India and Sri Lanka have had total 29 games in T20I, with India leading with 19 wins as against 9 of Sri Lanka’s. Meanwhile, one match yielded no result.

Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed as India’s new T20I captain, and all eyes will be on him as he leads a youthful squad in Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, Charith Asalanka will captain the Sri Lankan side following Wanindu Hasaranga.
