Millions of Americans don’t have dental insurance and those who do say it doesn’t cover enough. The town of Los Algodones, Mexico better known as “Molar City” has become a destination for those seeking treatment, at a fraction of the cost.

6 years agoI was going to pay about $4800.00 dollars in Dental care in Milwaukee but when I visited my family in Juarez I went to the dentist and it cost me $750.00 for root canal, 4 implants, the medication, the cleaning and everything I needed. I’m very satisfied, but it took me about 8 weeks for everything. Always do your research so you find a good dentist.

6 years agoAmericans don’t think good health care exist outside the U.S.. What they don’t know is health care outside the U.S. in most cases is way better and much cheaper. In many cases insurance deductibles in the U.S. are more then the actual cost of the health care in other countries.

6 years agoI had a crown done in Mexico for $190 4 years ago. They did a good job. Was going to cost me here 1,400. They use the same materials as here. I opted for the $190, others were charging $150 or less. I chose an older dentist with lots of experience. For fill ins don’t think it’s that important, but yes do a bit of homework. Ask around.

2 years ago (edited)My employer pays 100% for my medical/dental insurance, but dental is limited to $1500/year only. So, when I needed 3 implants (not covered) and 1 crown (covered on 50%) replacement, I got a total estimate for $16.000+, and even if I break it down for 2 years, insurance will pay only $3000. I didn’t want to be on the hook for $13.000 even with their “payment plans”. I did my research, decided to go to Cancun, one of the top clinics, and did everything in 2 trips for $4700. Also, I was able to get small reimbursement (may be $400) from my insurance for crown and fillings. Flights and hotels are cheap, I took my wife for the second trip and we enjoyed 1-week vacation in Cancun beaches. Now, I have all implants, crown and fillings done for less than $5000 out-of-pocket, including travel costs. I’m really satisfied with the quality and expect implants to last long time. P.S. Go to Mexico if you need an extensive dental work, for small items its still better to go to local dentist.Read more

6 years agoI noticed how the reporter conveniently neglected to mention that insurance makes dental bills skyrocket in the United States. As this story demonstrates, it would be cheaper if there were no insurance at all.

6 years agoLol its dental work, they arent doing fillings with spoons and forks.. i wouldnt mind going there to get my teeth worked on. Im not even looking at the price, they are dentists and they know what they are doing. And ive seen many people get scammed for dental work in the us including myself. My dentist in California almost convinced me that i need veneers and three crowns but i didnt need anything!

2 years agoI am one of those Americans that have driven four hour to Los Algodones, I’ve done a lot of my dental needs there for years now and never been desapointed in any of the work they’ve done. I highly recommend them, not only the price is affordable but they explained every time what procedures they’ll do . There dental equipment at the clinic i go to is modern and very clean. A crown in the U.S. 1800 to 2000 dollars there is 350 to 600 depending on what needs to be done.. Many of the doctors in Los Algodones are ADA approved and many are specialists graduated in the U S …. Of course people have to do their research just like you would do here.Read more

3 years agoDentistry in Mexico is of high quality comparable to first world countries. Here future dentists have very rigorous studies at the university, to practice they must have the professional title of Bachelor of Dentistry, they must have a Professional Certificate issued by the SEP, have a specialty, or a master’s degree. As there is healthy competition, the services are accessible to all Mexican citizens, even cheaper than in the United States of America, from where US citizens, mostly middle class, come to perform dental procedures in Los Algodones, Mexico. Although the quality varies, even dental students perform dental extractions, dental inlays, mouth cleanings, among other procedures “free” for people who cannot pay for it. I feel lucky to have been born in Mexico 🇲🇽 Greetings from Minatitlán, Veracruz.Read more

4 years agoI went to Los Algodones, i was a little nerves at first but i get things done with quality work, I never had a single problem with the implants that is being done there . next year (2020) i need to go back for 2 more implants. i not even bother to ask prices around my town any more after what i pay on my first visit. 45 % lower cost of the best price here in NY. What I notices is that a least 2 practices around my town are permanente close… i guess out of business or move another town.. wherever. that is the truth that I see.

6 years agoI feel like I got scammed here in the US. I went in for a chipped tooth. And they told me a price. I thought it was high. But i was like ok. Ended upwith a crown. All because a chipped tooth… not even a cavity or nothing bad. But slightly chipped.

3 years agoThe arrogance and uppity attitude of US MD and Dental Insurance System is an example of why other nations’ said industry is thriving and practically unreasonable and unreachable to many Americans that they opted to go elsewhere. Pundits would argue it is very expensive to practice because of malpractice insurance. Again Insurance industry needs to be overhauled, but not going happen until most Americans decide to go elsewhere for their check ups.

4 years agoI am living in poverty at $750.00 a month social security and my insurance won’t pay for implants that would snap my dentures in my mouth. I’ve lost so much bone I can’t get regular implants, heck I can’t get any work done at all. I’m completely toothless, all my teeth have already been pulled. Im 67 yrs. old and don’t socialize at all, I only go to grocery store. I’m too embarrassed to go out.
